One Room Challenge, Wk 4: My Boys' Bathroom- Vanity Lights & Hardware

We just got home from our family vacation yesterday afternoon. My mom and grandma flew up from SoCal, and we stayed at a resort in Central Oregon. I envisioned myself making a few more decisions from afar, but I’ll show you what I was able to do while 3 hours away from my #oneroomchallenge for a week.

In case you were busy this week:

Week 1- Inspiration & Before Photos

Week 2- Mood Board & Design Plans

Week 3- Shower Curtain & Vanity Prep

The Lighting Debate- dun DUN. It has nothing to do with political future of our country, but the jury is definitely out on this one! When I put my design plans together, I intended to keep the existing vanity light. It’s not my favorite, but it works and it’s free. It has four bulbs and is quite bright in our small bathroom. I currently only put 2 bulbs in it, but I thought I would just replace them with 4 less bright bulbs.

Then last week I travelled across town to IKEA to return some items leftover from my workspace makeover, and couldn’t help but walk through the Marketplace. ( I mean, who can?) There weren’t many options, but I did find a 3-bulb vanity light for just $29.00. I don’t even know why I took a photo of it, because my hubby was quite set in stone about not replacing the existing vanity light when we did Phase 1 of the bathroom two years ago. But, I just had to know my options!

On one hand, it’s a great price at only $29.00. On the other hand, I could just replace the bulbs of my current light fixture and avoid patching my wall. I just completed another design challenge for under $100.00, so part of me is inclined to not spend extra money. Hmmm…. Time to ask my design team. Option No. 1- keep my existing light with new bulbs. Option No. 2- buy the new light. InstaStories, what do you think?!

Next I started searching for some hardware options for the vanity cabinet, including a new toilet paper holder. These pieces need to coordinate with my existing hand towel hanger from Phase 1. I think I need a new toilet flush handle, as well. I’d also like to replace the knobs on the toilet cabinet to match the vanity.

Vanity Prep Update: My husband only had an hour of “alone time” today. AKA- alone time on the patio while our baby was napping. He had time to remove the doors and drawers, and get some sanding done. Not as much as we had hoped, but I’ll take it!

And he is so excited to tear off the vanity top, that he jumped the gun and pried off some of our back splash. Did that feel good, hubby?

Week 5 is going to be BIG. This vanity just needs to happen! Sanding, filling, sanding, and finally painting. I might write out a daily schedule to really stay on track for the next two weeks. DIY projects were so much easier before having two babies running around the house (ruling our liiiiives - Lol)
